Imagine swimming in crystal clear azure water, breathing in the cleanest air in Spain and walking for hours along a beautiful coastline. That is Javea. Jávea, also written as Xàbia, has an unprecedentedly beautiful coast and, because of its favorable location, a constant Mediterranean climate. It is no coincidence that more and more winter visitors are coming here!

AUTHENTIC SPANISH
Jávea is not just a place to be for hibernators. In fact, everyone is probably impressed by the beauty of this place. Jávea consists of three parts; the old town center (La Villa) where remains of piracy and all kinds of dominions of other peoples can be found, the harbor and the “sand plain”. Jávea is perfectly situated between Valencia and Alicante and is surrounded by rocks, mountains and a huge variety of vegetation.

THE OLD DOWNTOWN
In the old town you will find many remains of piracy that took place here around the 14th century. In the remains of the fort you can still see the remains of the cannonballs! In the historic center you can now mainly enjoy a snack and a drink in one of the cute cafes. You can also visit a large food market that opens its doors at 8 a.m. in the early morning and closes for an afternoon siesta at 2 p.m. You are welcome again at 5 p.m. to find local products until 9 p.m. Another nice market that you can find in the historic city center can be visited on Plaza de la Constitución every week. Another thing that is certainly worth seeing in Jávea is the Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum “Soler Blasco”. Indeed, there have been many conquests and rulers in this part of Spain that have left deep marks.

THE PORT
The oldest remains of the port date from the 15th century. Unfortunately, there is not much left of this. At the time, the port was not very important. From 1871 raisins were shipped from Jávea. This has ensured that the port was developed and expanded in size. The harbor became a fishing port in the 19th century. There was no longer any enthusiasm for raisins. The port was modernized mid-19th century.

THE “SAND FLAT”
With the “sand plain of Jávea” is meant the beach. The beach is 20 kilometers long. The seawater of the Mediterranean Sea is almost always pleasant here. In the winter months not for swimming, but certainly for a dip. It is also possible to practice various water sports in the sea at Jávea, including diving. In the summer you can enjoy a drink with a snack or a night out on the boulevard at Playa del Arenal beach.

PLAYA DE LA GRANADELLA
There are also many beautiful beaches around Jávea. An example of this, one of the most beautiful, is Playa de la Granadella, also often called Playa Granadella. This is a bay located and from the mountain you have a beautiful view.

ACCESSIBILITY
The distance from Valencia to Jávea is around 100 kilometers. You can choose to rent a car and then choose the “normal” highway where you drive through different towns and villages and you can possibly make a stop. Another option is to take the toll road (peaje). You do pay for this, but it is often a lot quieter. In case you prefer to go by bus, that is also a possibility. The journey takes approximately 2 hours and a return ticket costs around 20 euros. If you think 4 hours of traveling is a bit too much, then you could of course stay 1 night in Jávea.

FESTIVITIES
In Jávea there are many festive events to attend. The solstice is celebrated on June 23 with a big party (San Juan). There are bull races, fireworks, paper mache artworks and traditional bonfires. Other traditional holidays are a religious ceremony for the Virgin (La Virgen del Carmen) and a festival called Moros y Christianos (Moors and Christians) that takes place from 12 to 20 July.
